About Us

About File4PC

File4PC is an independent software directory built for one purpose: to make finding safe, working Windows software as simple as possible. Every day, people search for a free video editor, a partition tool, a PDF reader, or a driver utility, and end up on pages buried under fake download buttons, bundled toolbars, and installers that quietly change their browser settings. We started File4PC because that experience is unacceptable, and because a clean directory is genuinely useful.

What We Publish

Our catalog covers the categories Windows users actually search for: security and antivirus utilities, web browsers, system tools, multimedia and video editors, productivity software, developer tools, and PC games. For each title we publish a dedicated page that includes a plain-language overview, the developer and current version, the license model (freeware, shareware, trial, or open source), the supported operating system and architecture, the download size, full system requirements, and screenshots so you can see the interface before you commit to an install.

How We Test Software

We do not publish a listing based on a press release alone. Before a title goes live, it is downloaded and installed on a clean Windows 10 or Windows 11 virtual machine. We check that the installer completes without errors, that the program launches, that the advertised features actually exist in the version we link to, and that the uninstaller removes the application cleanly. We also watch for unwanted behavior: silent browser modifications, bundled third-party offers that are pre-checked, background services that phone home, and installers that require an account before the program will open. When we find something concerning, we either reject the listing or label it clearly on the page.

Our Safety Labels

Each listing carries a safety badge that reflects the most recent scan and review. A Clean badge means the file was scanned with multiple reputable antivirus engines, installed successfully, and showed no unwanted behavior during testing. A Flagged badge means we found something worth telling you about โ€” an aggressive bundled offer, an outdated signature, or a feature that behaves differently than the description suggests. We would rather warn you and let you decide than quietly remove a page and leave you wondering why.

Licensing and Copyright

File4PC is a directory, not a software publisher. We do not crack, patch, re-pack, or modify the programs we list, and we do not host pirated commercial software. Where a title is paid, we link to the developer's official trial, freemium tier, or open-source repository. If you believe a listing on this site infringes your copyright, please read our DMCA policy and send us a notice โ€” we act on valid notices promptly.

How We Keep the Lights On

Running a directory costs money: hosting, bandwidth, storage, and the hours spent testing. We cover those costs through clearly marked advertising and affiliate links to official developer stores. Advertisements never influence which programs we list, how we rate them, or what we say about them. If a listing is sponsored, it is labeled as sponsored.

Editorial Independence

Our writers and testers are not permitted to accept payment, gifts, or favors in exchange for a positive review, a higher placement, or the removal of an accurate criticism. If you are a developer and you disagree with something we wrote, write to us with specifics and we will re-test the software and correct the page if we were wrong. Corrections are noted on the page so readers can see that something changed.

Get in Touch

We read every message. Whether you have found a broken download link, spotted a factual error, want to suggest a program for review, or need to send a legal notice, our contact page explains the fastest way to reach the right person. You can also browse our sitemap to see everything currently published on the site.

Thank You

File4PC exists because people kept asking for a download site that respects their time and their computer. Thank you for using it, and thank you for telling us when we get something wrong.
